Chinese officials and investors visit fishery projects in Puerto Princesa PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 September 2006

GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS and investors from the People’s Republic of China recently visited the City Government’s fishery projects in an effort to establish cooperative bilateral endeavors between the Philippines and China governments.

The 18-member Chinese delegation was led by Liu Yuanlin, Deputy Director General of the Oceanic and Fishery Department of Shandong, China.

In an earlier communication letter sent to Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn by House Speaker Jose de Venecia, the Chinese officials and businessmen’s visit was an offshoot of the trip to China by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Director Malcolm Sarmiento last July.

Assistant Region 4-B Director Ruben Jardin said Yuanlin and his group observed BFAR’s initiated projects, like mariculture, fishponds, feed milling and aquatic processing products near Puerto Princesa Bay. They also visited the Sta. Lucia Research Station where different marine species are now being successfully cultivated. Jardin said the Chinese visitors are willing to invest on fishery projects in the areas they visited.
