PGMA to grace coop summit in Palawan next month PDF Print E-mail

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Sept. 20 (PNA) - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is scheduled to grace the holding of the 8th National Cooperative Summit to be held October 4-6 in this city.

In a media briefing, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Palawan disclosed that President Arroyo will be the keynote speaker during the opening of the three-day summit at the city’s coliseum.


Some 4,000 cooperative leaders and advocates are expected to attend the biennial gathering, Senen Bacani, chair of the National Summit Committee, reported.

Assistant Provincial Cooperative Development Officer Vickie Ladica said aside from Filipino participants, they are also expecting foreign delegates from Thailand and Japan, among other countries.

On the second day of the summit, several Cabinet secretaries will present their support programs for cooperative development.

Among them are Department of Agriculture Secretary Domingo Panganiban, Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes.

On the third day, the various speakers will discuss Proper Tax Treatment of Cooperatives, Good Cooperative Governance, and Financing Coop Programs and Projects.

A Fellowship Night will be hosted by Palawan Governor Joel T. Reyes at the provincial Capitol square on the opening day, while a Mayor’s Night will likewise be hosted by Mayor Edward Hagedorn at the coliseum on the following day. (PNA)
