Asia World Resort Hotel to open again PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 30 October 2006

THE FIVE-STAR Asia World Resort Hotel might operate again, as disclosed by City Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn during in an interview a few days before his October 12, 2006 birthday.

Although he didn’t name who the potential buyers are, or which company is planning to pursue the acquisition, the chief executive is positive that this new development will enhance Puerto Princesa’s tourism industry.

“The buyers of Asia World are here, and it seems that there is a likelihood of a sale because they have met the owner,” he told Palawan Times.

Meanwhile, a source who requested anonymity told Palawan Times the spacious 127-bedroom and lavishly decorated hotel is being sold for P250 million. It’s been up for sale since it closed down a few years ago.

Mayor Hagedorn has always been optimistic with the reopening of Asia World which will partially solve the City’s problem on tourist accommodations.

“The reason why we cannot go full blast in promoting our city’s tourism industry is because we still lack infrastructure facilities and our accommodation is not enough,” Mayor Hagedorn explained.

To date, he said Puerto Princesa is only capable of accommodating over a thousand guests.

During its heyday, the elegant five-star resort hotel imposingly spread out on a six-hectare prime property had been the center of almost all exciting experiences, from international conventions to presidential visits. It boasted of a wide range of facilities and amenities designed to cater to every guest’s need.
