Saturday, 30 June 2007

PUERTO PRINCESA - The Palawan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (PCCII) will sponsor a forum to provide residents here a clear explanation on the proposal to convert Puerto Princesa into a Highly Urbanized City (HUC), to be held at Hotel Fleuris, Lacao Street, this city at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The forum will be attended by businessmen, local leaders, and numerous representatives from various sectors, including non-government organizations, people’s organizations, religious, and other civic organizations in the city, PCCI president Armando Lustre, Jr. said.

Print and broadcast media practitioners are also expected to participate in the event as the PCCI will air the forum over the radio to help disseminate helpful information to the people of Puerto Princesa that will aid them on the plebiscite.

The plebiscite on the conversion of Puerto Princesa into an HUC is scheduled July 9.

Speakers in the forum are lawyer Floresita Flores, former secretary general of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) director Teresita Mistal.

Flores, a Manila-based practicing lawyer, writer and researcher, will present her recently commissioned research on the issue.

Lustre said Flores can provide valuable insights and facts beneficial to the Puerto Princesans.

Her knowledge and expertise in law and taxation are applied in several law books she has written, and which are being used in several prestigious universities in the country, he noted.

”We consider her as the best resource person to speak about this controversial issue,” Lustre said. (PNA)
