Wednesday, 06 February 2008

The 2008 Motocross Masters of Asia - Puerto Princesa International Motocross Grand Prix will give Puerto Princesa City and the country’s tourism industry a big boost as it will also showcase the various tourist spots of Puerto Princesa City.

It will be the fifth straight year that Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn and the City of Puerto Princesa will be hosting the event which will be covered by the UK crew of Star Sports and ESPN and will be beamed to over 600 million households worldwide highlighting not only Puerto Princesa City but the Philippines in the high tech motorsports world.

“Hosting the event for the fifth straight year will further firm up Puerto Princesa’s claim as the Sports Tourism Capital of the Philippines. Every year, more and more tourists visit Puerto Princesa increasing our local economy and foreign investments to enjoy the peaceful ambience, the beauty and splendor of our nature frontiers and scenic spots and get the rare chance to witness the biggest motorsports spectacle featuring champion riders from the Asia-Pacific region.  Only Puerto Princesa City can do that and we are very proud of it, to promote Puerto in the international community using the Asian motocross as a vehicle to promote this with its global telecast production to the world” said Hagedorn.

The event, sponsored by the City of Puerto Princesa, Oakley, Castrol and Bridgestone will feature champion riders from Asia Pacific participating countries which includes Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Guam, USA, Iran, Thailand, China, the United Kingdom and Mongolia this Asian motocross series.

Among the new riders to watch this year is the Guam lady 2007 champion rider from Guam, Jaime Plagman, a Fil-American who will be riding on a 250 F machine in the Asian 125 cc class.

Prior to the event, Asian Motorsports Academy will have a Motocross training school on Friday from 4-6pm, to be conducted by a Japanese instructor.

The Philippines will be bannered by Kenneth San Andres, a former junior champion who prevailed in the PRO category in the kickoff leg of the Mayor Tinga Cup last Sunday at the Fast Track Circuit race in Taguig City.

The foreign delegates together with the UK Crew of ESPN and Star Sports will be treated to a tour of the City’s nature and historical sights like the Crocodile Farm, the Honda Bay, Ulugan Bay, the geologic limestone formations at the Underground River, the Palawan Museum, the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the Lions Cave, the Cawili Cave and a tour of Puerto Princesa’s aborigines at the Batak Village,

Up for grabs is the Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn Cup -- a sterling silver trophy coming from the city’s chief executive and his constituents.
