Puerto Princesa plans to build own power plant PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 February 2008

PUERTO PRINCESA City, Feb. 12 (PNA) -- The city government plans to build own and operate a combined cycle co-generation power facility that will service the residents of Puerto Princesa.

Councilor Feliberto S. Oliveros III, chairperson of the City Council’s Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, presented the proposal to the Council, stating that it will help improve the power situation in the city.

Oliveros suggested giving Mayor Edward Hagedorn the power to negotiate with the Fist Southern Ethanol Energy Corporation.

He noted that ethanol is an environment-friendly fuel which is suitable for a place like Puerto Princesa where nature conservation is one of the local administration's priorities.

The proposed power facility will produce 20 megawatts of power in the first year of its operation and additional 10.5 megawatts in the succeeding years.

Other members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod have asked for copies of the feasibility study for further review. (PNA)
