PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, April 17 (PNA) -- Military and police authorities will provide maximum security to more than 10,000 athletes, officials, and guests during the staging of the Palarong Pambansa at the 16-hectare Ramon V. Mitra, Jr. Sports Complex from April 20 to 26.

Western Command Information Officer Lt. Col. Jacinto de Vera told the Philippines News Agency (PNA) that soldiers assigned at Western’s different military units, namely; Marine Battalion Landing Team-9, Naval Forces West, Air Forces 570th Composite Tactical and Philippine Army.

Policemen from city police station and Palawan Police Office are also in full force to ensure the safety of the delegates during the seven-day sports competition.

De Vera said that other law enforcement agencies are helping the military and police authorities in providing 24-hour security to all delegations as well as the spectators to prevent untoward incidents.

The Wescom spokesman said soldiers and policemen will be dispatched in the delegates’ billeting areas and also playing venues.

But de Vera explained that there is no report of presence of terrorists who could sabotage the staging of the Palaro.

He said the contingency security measures implemented in the recently concluded Mimaroparaa regional meet had been successful, adding that they will sustain it.

Supt. Reynaldo Jagmis, deputy provincial director, said they will continue establish three advance command posts that are strategically located in the different points of the sports complex.

Jagmis made an appeal to the public to report to the nearest PNP outpost any unusual movements of suspicious characters and untoward incidents during the competition. (PNA)
