Puerto Princesa mulls buying 30 e-jeepneys PDF Print E-mail

e_jeepney PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Aug. 4 (PNA) - The Puerto Princesa City government is planning to buy 30 units of innovative electric jeepney (e-jeepney) that will ply a commercial route in the city’s main thoroughfares.

City Information Officer Alroben Goh said Mayor Edward Hagedorn wants to acquire 30 units of e-jeepneys to help mitigate climate change and address problems such as air pollution, solid waste and rising fuel prices.

Goh said before the city government buys the e-jeepney, it will study their durability. E-jeepney had operated for three months in the city proper up to Palawan State University and City Hall routes.

”The procurement will depend on the durability of e-jeepney during its three months test run as well endorsement of the transport operators," the spokesperson said.

He said that GRIPP (Green Renewable Independent Power Producer) and Greenpeace are offering installment scheme in the acquisition of the 30 e-jeepneys.

Goh said Puerto Princesa is the first city outside Metro Manila made its test run of e-jeepney, the first public transport system of its kind in South East Asia.

He said Makati has launched its commercial operations.

The mayor wants the e-jeepney to replace the smoke-belching ones in the city’s streets.(PNA)
