Puerto Princesa airport up for P4.4-B rehab and improvement PDF Print E-mail

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, June 29 (PNA) -- The P4.4-billion improvement of the Puerto Princesa airport is set to be offered this September under the public-private partnership (PPP) of the Aquino administration, Eduardo Lansang, head of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) here announced recently.

The airport will be rehabilitated in order to meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Lansang said among all other airports that the Philippine government plans to develop further, Puerto Princesa Airport was picked to be the pilot project under the PPP because of increase in tourism activities following the city government’s campaign for the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in the New Seven Wonders of Nature.

He said a large company in Singapore has linked with the national government for the possibility of a partnership in rehabilitating and improving the airport. He said other companies from other countries have also signified interest to participate in the bidding for the project.

The rehabilitation will include the construction of new landslide facilities in the north western side of the existing runway, such as passenger terminal building, control tower, administration & operation building, cargo terminal building, rescue & fire fighting building and other support facilities.

Others are the construction of new apron and connecting taxiways, upgrading of the existing 2.6-kilometer runway and its strip, and the provision of new navigational and traffic control equipment. (PNA)
