PPUR raffle's grand prize winner to get P25M PDF Print E-mail

MANILA, Sept. 29 (PNA)-- Telecommunications giants Smart, Globe and Sun are jointly earmarking P25 million as grand raffle prize for the lucky texter who voted, through short messaging service, for inclusion of the Philippines' Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in the list of winners of the New 7Wonders of Nature worldwide search.

”This is the private sector's support to government's campaign for PPUR to be among the world's new seven wonders,” Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Sec. Ramon Paje said Thursday during a briefing in Metro Manila.

DENR noted people who voted for PPUR from October 1 to December 28 this year will be included in the raffle contest which telecommunication companies concerned will launch.

Paje said DENR officials will attend the contest's launching on September 30, in the 'Will Time, Big Time' television program of celebrity host Willie Revillame.

The raffle's grand draw will be on December 30 this year, DENR also said.

”Our tourism will rise meteorically if PPUR emerges as among the world's new seven wonders,” Paje said.

PPUR is reputedly the world's longest navigable underground river lying within a unique, complex, valuable and high-energy karst eco-system.

DENR said votes for such eco-system can be cast by texting PPUR to 2861, the common number for Smart, Globe and Sun for this purpose.

New7Wonders of Nature is an international initiative to identify seven natural attractions which people worldwide voted for.

The official New7Wonders of Nature campaign commenced in 2007 following conclusion of a similar initiative to identify the new seven wonders on earth.

PPUR texters unable to win the grand prize can win still five consolation prizes of P1 million each, Paje continued.

”There'll be daily, weekly and monthly raffles also,” he said.

He noted the telecommunications companies' prizes for such raffles are P10,000 per draw, P100,000 per draw and P250,000 per draw, respectively.

Results of the draws will be announced on Revillame's program, he said.

Aside from PPUR, the New7Wonders search's finalists are the Amazon (South America), Angel Falls (Venezuela), Bay of Fundy (Canada), Black Forest (Germany), Bu Tinah Island (United Arab Emirates), Cliffs of Moher (Ireland), the Dead Sea (Israel, Jordan and Palestine), El Yunque (Puerto Rico), Galapagos (Ecuador), Grand Canyon (United States), Great Barrier Reef (Australia and Papua New Guinea), Halong Bay (Vietnam), Iguazu Falls (Argentina and Brazil), Jeita Grotto (Lebanon), Jeju Island (South Korea), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Komodo (Indonesia), Maldives (the Maldives), Masurian Lake District (Poland), Matterhorn/Cervino (Italy and Switzerland), Milford Sound (New Zealand), Mud Volcanoes (Azerbaijan), Sundarbans (Bangladesh and India), Table Mountain (South Africa), Uluru (Australia), Vesuvius (Italy) and Yushan (Chinese Taipei).
