Miss Earth beauties boost Puerto Princesa's environmental campaign
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Oct. 23 (PNA) -- Fresh from receiving ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities Award, Puerto Princesa's campaign to rehabilitate denuded forest will get a huge a support from Miss Earth candidates.

Some 30 Miss Earth beauties, together with Mayor Edward Hagedorn, will take part in the tree planting activity in the mountainous part of barangay Irawan, some 15 kilometers south from the city proper on Oct. 24, 2008.

The candidates will experience the beauty and richness of Puerto Prinsesa and contribute to its environment.

Miss Earth is promoting environmental projects and to address issues concerning the environment.

The beauty competition advocates to have its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth.

The Green Thumbs Up campaign is the newest movement of the Miss Earth Foundation to give people in different "environments" tips on how we can help mitigate the effects of climate change or simply maintain the cleanliness of our surroundings to proper utilization of our resources.

Meanwhile, Puerto Princesa, under the leadership of Hagedorn, has been recognized by Southeast Asian Nations who has taken exemplary measures to keep their cities clean, green and liveable even as they continue to grow as centers of economic and industrial activity."

The environmental mayor has initiated "Pista Y Ang Kagueban" or Feast of the Forest, now its 18th year, planted more than a million trees. (PNA)
