Binay to be guest of Puerto Princesa in 20th Pista Y Ang Cagueban celebration
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, June 15 (PNA) –- The city government and Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn have invited Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay to be their special guest in this year’s celebration of the 20th Pista Y Ang Cagueban (Feast of the Forest) in the Irawan Watershed, Barangay Irawan on June 26.

This was personally confirmed by Mayor Hagedorn during a radio interview Tuesday morning, saying that if the vice-president elect accepts, he and the re-elected and newly-elected members of the City Council will take oath in front of him in the Pista.

“Yes, we are trying to invite vice president-elect Binay because he is close to the people of Puerto Princesa and has been the city’s avid supporter since Makati, where he is an outgoing mayor, became our sister city,” Hagedorn stated.

The sisterhood agreement between Puerto Princesa and Makati, referred to as the “bustling economic center of the whole country,” was signed on March 14, 2008.

Binay and Hagedorn agreed then that although their cities have very little in common, their pact can espouse development cooperation through improved collaboration.

Like the past years, Hagedorn and the members of the City Council will lead an expected more than 30,000 residents of Puerto Princesa in the celebration of the Pista for the planting about 100,000 various species of trees in the watershed area.

If there’s any addition to the schedule of events, he disclosed that this is only their oath taking.

“The difference this year is that we want to take our oath in front of the people of Puerto Princesa and vice president-elect Binay, who will join the Pista because we all love our environment and will continue to work for its sustainable conservation, preservation and protection,” he said.

Annually, the forest feast is participated in by non-government organizations, government institutions, the academe, the religious sector, youth organizations, invited special guests from sister cities and others.

Activities consist of jungle survival games, camping, concert at the forest, and more. (PNA)
