‘Green’ journalists to visit underground river in Palawan

KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 22 (PNA) -- The Philippine Network of Environmental Journalists (PNEJ) will visit the Puerto Princesa Underground River during their two-day visit in Palawan on September 22-23.

Imelda Abano, PNEJ president, said that the delegation will be attended by journalists from Metro Manila, Baguio City, Davao City and Kalibo, Aklan. The PNEJ is a national organization of journalists with focus on environmental news reporting.

The PNEJ team will be going straight to Daluyon Beach and Mountain Resort to study the operation of the ‘so-called’ green hotel. The Daluyon Resort has been named “zero carbon resort” by the European Union-funded project “Zero Carbon Resorts.”

The PNEJ will then proceed to the underground river in the afternoon to experience the ‘Palawan wonder.’ The underground river is currently vying for the New Seven Wonders of Nature global competition.

The next day, the ‘Green’ journalists will also be visiting the Puerto Pension in the city proper which is also considered as another ‘carbon free resort.’

The visit will culminate with a press conference with Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn together with the officials of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). (PNA)
