AboitizPower donates automatic weather station to Puerto Princesa

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Sept. 5 (PNA) - AboitizPower has identified this city as recipient of an automatic weather station (AWS) which will provide city officials with the necessary meteorological data that can be used in promptly alerting residents living in disaster-prone areas.

Vice Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron said two city personnel will undergo training on September 26-27 to learn how to operate the device. The training will include learning how to install the AWB and maintenance.

The vice mayor said the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) is currently looking for a site where to install the AWB.

The AWB typically consists of a weather-proof enclosure containing the data logger, rechargeable battery, telemetry (optional) and the meteorological sensors with an attached solar panel or wind turbine and mounted upon a mast.

The equipment is capable of capturing atmospheric and meteorological data such as rainfall, wind speed and direction, humidity, and temperature.

Bayron said the Aboitiz Power donation can greatly help residents of Puerto Princesa, particularly those living in disaster prone areas; as well as the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) in forming early response in case peculiar weather conditions are detected.

AboitizPower has several hydroelectric and geothermal assets in its generation portfolio including non-renewable power plants located across the country. (PNA)
